Romance at the Manor
May 1st 2010
Our day will begin refreshments before you settle down to one of these two workshops in the morning.
Allie Spenser: Beginning a Romantic Story
In this workshop we will begin by investigating what makes a memorable opening for a romantic novel. We will look at how best to introduce riveting characters and how to set up scintillating plot-lines and conflicts that will carry your novel through to its conclusion. We will also spend some time discussing submissions to literary agents and publishing houses and focus on how to present those vital, opening chapters to their best advantage.
Beryl Kingston: Romantic Characters
The problem for all new writers of fiction, romantic or otherwise, is how to get an agent to notice you. One way is to create strong, individual, rounded and memorable characters. This workshop examines one way of doing it.
During the morning tea break the authors will be available for the 1 to 1 sessions and for general questions and answers from all the participants.
Lunch
For those who book with us to have lunch, this will consist of three courses and will be served in the elegant dining room at Chilworth. All the authors will be there and from past reports the meal is a truly delicious one!
Then in the afternoon you have the choice of one of these workshops:
Catherine King: Romantic Sagas
Catherine King's romantic saga A MOTHER'S SACRIFICE sold three and a half thousand copies in the week before Mother's Day this year, so what is the appeal of this enduring genre? In Catherine's workshop you will learn about the essential ingredients of a romantic saga to enable you to create an idea of your own, and how to approach developing the plot.
Adrienne Dines: Romantic Conflicts and Endings
In Romance Fiction we pretty much know what is going to happen - ultimately - it’s the writer’s job to determine how. In this workshop we’ll look at the issue of Conflict and how we use it to control the action in our stories...what conflicts govern the journey from the beginnings of a romance to the final satisfying conclusion.
During the afternoon tea break the authors will be available for the 1 to 1 sessions and for general questions and answers from all the participants.
It should be a memorable day, and we hope you will leave inspired to write great heart warming romantic fiction.
